Around 1820, a taciturn loner in western Oregon meets a Chinese immigrant who is also looking for his fortune. The two cooks team up to start a small business. Soon, the two devise a dangerous plan to steal milk from the wealthy landowner's prized Jersey cow - the first and only one in the area.
