Jacob and Monica Yi immigrated to America from South Korea with their daughter Anne and son David. There they first live in California, where mother and father earn a meagre income. Jacob, however, dreams of owning his own farm and therefore eventually moves with his family to Arkansas, where land ownership is cheaper. For the Yi family, starting a farm is easier said than done: Monica is at the end of her tether and Jacob despairs that he cannot provide for his family. At least the children's grandmother, Soonja, who has come over from South Korea, can provide some support for the family....
