The Chinese cook Cheng and his son are looking for an old Finnish friend in a remote village in Lapland. Nobody seems to know his friend, but the local café owner Sirkka offers him a place to stay. In return, Cheng helps her in the kitchen and surprises the locals with Chinese delicacies. Despite cultural differences he quickly finds recognition and new friends among the Finns. When Cheng is forced to leave the village for lack of a residence permit, the villagers come up with a plan to help him stay... Mika Kaurismäki's new film is a universal and at the same time quirky comedy with warmth and Nordic summer flair.
