Laundromat owner Evelyn Wang is lost in the chaos of her everyday life. Her father's upcoming visit overwhelms her, the customers' requests push her to her limits and the upcoming tax return is completely over her head. But while she and her family are auditioning for the tax inspector, her universe is literally thrown into turmoil. Space and time dissolve and she and her fellow human beings suddenly have other lives in various parallel worlds. But the multiverse also has advantages - she can access the abilities and lives of other versions of herself. This is also bitterly necessary, because she is entrusted with a great, if not the greatest possible mission of all: saving the world from unknown evil.
The film comes up with so many crazy ideas that it is a joy. A highly enjoyable fusion of creative lunacy, black humour, exuberant aesthetics and profound existential questions. Perhaps the best film of all time.
