Widower Walter (HEINER LAUTERBACH) spends his retirement testing restaurants and meticulously reviewing them online. During one of his visits, he happens to bump into his childhood sweetheart Alice (IRIS BERBEN). Forty years ago, he proposed to her and failed spectacularly. The vivacious and free-spirited art professor is still the exact opposite of the old-fashioned, meticulous Walter. The retired engineer's ambition is piqued. He wants to do better this time. Alice, on the other hand, has no intention of getting involved in another relationship. She enjoys her independent life and doesn't want the stress of a relationship. Finally, she sets a condition: only if he shows genuine interest in her world will he perhaps get a second chance. And so, to Alice's horror, Walter, who has never been interested in art, enrols as a guest student in her course. He is determined to prove to himself and to her that it is never too late to break new ground. But it's not only Alice who presents him with unexpected challenges, but also his encounter with his fellow students, who are 40 years younger than him. Unexpectedly, Alice and Walter find themselves in a new, exciting chapter of their lives and have to ask themselves: does old love really never rust?
